As per the unofficially announced ‘power cut schedule’, all district headquarters and municipalities under NPDCL zone would face power cuts in two spells of three hours each, one during morning hours and the other during evening hours.
  • “Whereas towns, mandal headquarters and villages are to face two spells of four-hour power cuts every day,” said a NPDCL official, adding that the power crisis scenario would continue till April next year due to start of rabi season. In Warangal city, people are facing power cuts from 8 am to 11 am and again from 3 pm to 6 pm, whereas in rural areas between 6 am and 10 am and again from 2 pm to 6 pm every day. While requesting anonymity, a senior NPDCL official said that the power cuts became inevitable following drop in the hydel-power generation capacity at Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects. “Since, NPDCL had already exhausted its quota of generated hydel power during the Sakala Janula Samme, there is now no sc-ope to have additional pow-er as water levels have co-me down,” said the official.
  • The severe shortage of power is likely to affect productivity levels of more than 400 small and medium industrial units located in Industrial Development Area (IDA) in Rampur and Madikonda in Warangal as NPDCL has announced two-day power holiday in a week for all high-tension (HT) consumers.“Now, besides Sunday, when we have a complete power shutdown, we would have to bear another complete power shutdown on Wednesdays from now,” said Mr L. Somana, an entrepreneur and a HT consumer at IDA, Rampur, Warangal.
  • Meanwhile, power generation work has come to a standstill at the 500 mw APGenco-owned Kakatiya Thermal Power Project (KTPP) at Chelpur, where a snag in a turbine has put power production on hold for the last two months. The KTPP Chelpur produ-ces 12 million units of pow-er per day. “BHEL engine-ers are doing repair works on the turbine and we hope to begin power production by December 15,” said Mr N. Mahabaleshwar, chief engineer, KTPP, Chelpu, to this newspaper.
