State To Allot Land for 2 Power Plants

  • The state government has paved way for two mega power plants in Santhal Parganas by agreeing to provide them with land. The total power generation in the region, which at present does not have a single plant, will be around 2,300 MW in the next few years.Sources in land reforms and revenue department said the state government had decided to provide land to two power plants that would be set up by the Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) and CESC Limited at Godda and Dumka respectively. The power plant of the JSPL will be of 1,320 MW and that of CESC will be of 1,000 MW.
  • "Since the two projects are coming up in scheduled area (tribal area) and companies are facing problem in land acquisition, the state government has decided to help them. The local administration will help the two companies acquire land which could not have been possible on their own," said a source.Land reforms and revenue department special secretary A K Rastogi said the government had already singed an agreement for transfer of land with the JSPL. "A few days ago, we have signed an agreement for transfer of around 500 acre. Since the state government is there in the land acquisition process, we will always protect the interest of land losers. It will not be like the case where companies acquire land and there is no mechanism to help land losers to get what was promised by the investor at the time of acquisition," said Rastogi adding the state government would ensure that they get maximum benefit without any delay. He said the state government had also decided to acquire around 360 acres for CESC at Ramgarh in Dumka. "We hope the two power plants will set the ball rolling for growth of Santhal Parganas and also bring positive changes in the life of the local people," said Rastogi.
