• Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today reviewed the arrangements for providing basic amenities including position of availability of electricity, drinking water and other essential supplies, including rice, atta, sugar, kerosene oil, petrol and diesel, in a high level meeting. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Baseer Ahmed Khan, Director Information, Khwaja Farooq Renzushah, Commissioner SMC, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmed and various Heads of Departments including Chief Engineers. It was informed that 900-950 MW of power are being supplied in Kashmir Valley at peak load hours as against 750-800 MW which were supplied last year in the corresponding period. It was also informed that 190 lakh to 193 lakh units of power are being consumed daily in Kashmir Valley as against 175 lakh to 180 lakhs units last year in the same period. Div Com directed PDD to strictly adhere to curtailment schedule. Regarding essential commodities it was informed that 31,015 MTs of Rice, 8,469 MTs of Wheat and 2,451 MTs of Sugar are available in the 2131 sale outlets and 1165 FP Shops in Kashmir Valley which is sufficient for 40 days. Besides 1890 KL of Petrol, 8763 KL of Diesel and 4787 KL of Kerosene Oil and 1,01,845 cylinders of LPG are available which is sufficient for a month.
•  Round the clock snow-clearance control room is functional in Srinagar and all other district headquarters and 93 snow clearance machines including snow cutters have been deployed for snow clearance in all districts including remote areas like Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Gurez. More than 11,000 kms including roads, lanes and drains will be cleared of snow by Mechanical Engineering department, R&B, SMC and Urban Local Bodies, out of which MED has planned to clear snow from 4926 kms mechanically, which will be 750 kms more than last year. Regular attendance of employees is being monitored by the DCs and HODs in their respective areas and wherever any employee is found absent, the rule of no work no pay shall apply.
•  The meeting expressed gratitude to all the ministers who take frequent reviews and touring as in-charge of winter secretariat and regularly monitor the winter preparedness. The meeting was informed that Chief Secretary J&K recently held a high level review meeting at Srinagar with all HODs and DCs for taking stock of arrangements in which the Chief Secretary had expressed satisfaction over the arrangements. Besides Div Com Kashmir, all Deputy Commissioners and HODs are regularly monitoring the arrangements and availability of basic amenities so that the general public does not face any difficulty during winter months. Div Com directed that all HODs and DCs should conduct on spot redress of grievances and requested that public can record their grievances with the concerned DCs, HODs and concerned officials including Div Com Kashmir.
