Process for Selecting Coal India CMD Begins

  • The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), which handles hiring for the public sector firms, came out with an advertisement earlier this month inviting applications from suitable candidates for the top post at Coal IndiaThe process of selecting a full-time Chairman and Managing Director for Coal India (CIL) has started as acting CMD N C Jha is to retire next month.The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), which handles hiring for the public sector firms, came out with an advertisement earlier this month inviting applications from suitable candidates for the top post."The Public Enterprises Selection Board is seeking qualified candidates for the post of Chairman and Managing Director, Coal India," PESB said on its website.
  • "It is requested that names of candidates...who are found suitable for the said post as per the requirements...alongwiththeir up-to-date bio-data...may kindly be forwarded to PESB by 23rd January, 2012," the PESB said.After receiving applications, PESB would scrutinise them and shortlist the candidates for an interview for the top job, a top official in the coal ministry said.Jha will continue as the acting CMD of the PSU till his retirement on January 31, next year.
  • Jha, Director, Technical, with CIL was given the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director after the PSU's former chief Partha S Bhattcharyya retired in February, 2011.Earlier, PESB had recommended Bharat Coking Coal Ltd chief Tapas Lahiri as the first choice and Western Coalfields Ltd head D C Garg as the second choice for the top post in CIL.However, both the shortlisted candidates failed to get vigilance clearances.
