JDA Recarpets JLN Marg, Ignores 'Poor' Bylanes

  • The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) claims to have achieved two goals on its official website: One, working for the citizens' benefits with planned implementation of development schemes and, two, striving to help Jaipur achieve great progress. However, the civic body's latest "development work" seems to have fulfils neither of these. The JDA, on Thursday, undertook the work of repairing roads across the city on a war footing ahead of the Prawasi Bhartiya Sammelan, which is commencing from January 7. Interestingly, all the roads it is repairing are already free of potholes. In September, the JDA had re-levelled JLN Marg and Tonk Road and on Thursday, it started re-layering the JLN Marg, which would be used by the VIPs and VVIPs attending the conference.
  • In another case of smoothen roads which already offer almost silken drives, the civic body re-layered the Prithiviraj Road. The reason for diverting its attention to a stretch that needed none is because Birla Auditorium, the venue of the conference, is situated along this road. However, officials in JDA's engineering cell rejected claims that roads are needlessly being repaired a second time."There was some work left to be completed on JLN Marg and we're just finishing it. Same is the case with Tonk Road," said VS Sunda, director (engineering) with JDA. He accepted that roads are being repaired in wake of Prawasi Bhartiya Sammelan. "It will present positive image of the city," he said.Though presenting a good image of the city will go a long way in helping both the state and its capital, these works have brought no relief to Jaipurites, who travel on dangerously uneven roads.
