• Federal Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar has categorically said the government was not privatising any power generation unit and power utility.He said the impression being spread regarding privatization of public sector power entities is incorrect. Power sector reforms are being made to improve the sector and national economy.Talking to the delegation of Wapda Hydro Electric Union and power generation union to discuss various issues relating to power sector reforms, out sourcing of management of Gencos and service structure of employees he listened all demands and reservations.
• He said the interest of all the stakeholders would be protected and all the genuine demands of the workers would be considered. He said the issues relating to service structure of the employees and officers would be considered in the meeting to be held next week.He said the employees of former-Pepco would be given option for their posting in the new set up. He clarified the existing CEOs of the power distribution companies have also been allowed to compete for the post of CEOs being recruited under power sectors reforms package.
• He said the Board of Directors of the distribution companies has been fully empowered and the government on their recommendations would appoint CEOs.The performance will also be monitored by the Ministry of Water and Power.He said the fuel would be converted into the cheaper fuel and only operation and management would be given to the private sector to improve the efficiency. The concept clearance paper would be shared with the labour union in this regard. ppi
