Metro Corridor-II Work Soon

  • Hyderabad Metro Rail and GHMC officials will begin the demolition drive along the Metro Rail Corridor-II on December 15 to clear structures for widening the existing roads from Narayanguda to Musheerabad. In all 391 properties have been marked for demolition. Metro rail official have also prepared the compensation cheques to pay the property owners. The officials plan to complete the demolition work within three months.The officials could not begin work in corridor-II due to stiff opposition from traders in Musheerabad, Chikkadpally, Naraya-naguda and Sultan Bazaar. The problem in Sultan Baazar is yet to be resolved. “We have already issued notices to 391 property owners. Of them, we have paid compensation to 72 owners. We have prepared cheques to pay the compensation to the remaining owners. They will be disbursed soon,” said V. Shankar Narayana, deputy general manager (land acquisition), HMR.
  • Mr Narayana and the GHMC circle-9 assistant town planner Rajeshwar Rao will monitor the demolition drive. “For the first time, we are paying structural and land compensation to owners whose property is being acquired for road-widening. The compensation ranges from Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000 per sq.yard,” Mr Narayana added.During the last demolition drive, the officials had demolished a multi-storied building at RTC crossroads. “We paid Rs 1.25 crore as compensation to the property owner Rajendra. This includes land and structural compensation. Though the owner was willing to handover the property for road widening, the tenants who were residing in the building moved the High Court over the issue. However, the court ruled in our favor,” Mr Narayana explained.Meanwhile, traders in Krishna Nagar held a massive protest rally in front of Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium in Yousufguda against the Metro Rail project on Saturday. The traders vowed to disrupt works in Ameerpet, Madhuranagar, Yousufguda and Krishna-nagar. Holding placards, the traders demanded that the land acquisition process be stopped.
