Lamorde Urged to RE-launch Investigation into FCT Road Contracts

  • A group, Youth Campaign for Integrity in Governance (YCIG), has called on the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, to as a matter of urgency, commence investigations into the alleged roles of persons connected with the award of the over-inflated Kubwa Express-Way contract, put at over N16 billion. The contract was said to have been awarded during the tenure of Senator Adamu Aliero. The group, through its national coordinator, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, said the investigation into the contracts had become necessary to justify the federal government’s decision to give more bite to the anti-corruption crusade as exemplified by the appointment of a new chairman for the EFCC.
  • The group equally hailed members the Senate Committee on FCT, headed by Senator Smart Adeyemi, for their  uncommon courage and boldness in unravelling the road contracts scam said to have been over-inflated to the tune of over N16 billion and awarded  to a Chinese construction firm during the former minister’s tenure.it said that it was aware that there were subterranean moves to mount pressure on the Smart Adeyemi-led committee  to drop the case on the excuse that the former minister should not be disgraced because he was a member of the Senate.“We are aware that desperate attempts are being made in certain quarters to prevail on the EFCC and the Senate. We are talking about over-inflated roads contracts and it is beyond asking anyone to bow and go.“We hereby call on the new EFCC boss to as a matter of great national importance immediately wade into the case and demonstrate to all Nigerians that he is indeed capable and qualified to adequately fight corruption in the country,’’ the group stated.
