State Govt's Ambitious Projects Face Obstacles

  • The ambitious project of 'Naya Jaipur' seems to be a major failure for the state government as even after two years it continues to remain on paper. At the end of 2009, urban development and housing (UDH) minister Shanti Dhariwal had announced Naya Jaipur project -- a township stretching up to 105 km in Khonagorian area behind the Jhalana hills. The area was later reduced to 39 sq km under which 25 sq km was reserved for the green city and 14 sq km was reserved to develop the heritage city. The land was "downsized" as the authorities claimed that land was not available. A JDA official said, "There JDA has least vacant land to develop the city and most of the localities belonged to cooperative housing schemes. Now, there is also no plan to develop heritage city and green city." He added, "Till date no land acquisition has been done."Similarly, an attempt by the Congress government to construct the ring road project is also facing obstacles due to farmers' opposition. They claim the government has not kept its promise. Badri Prasad Sharma, president of Ring Road Sangharsh Samiti said recently, "It was in the party's manifesto that government will construct the ring road on 90 metres and that's the reason we supported them." He added, "The Congress leaders had assured us before the elections the farmers will always benefit, but they have not kept their promise." The farmers claim that despite meeting chief minister Ashok Gehlot and MP Mahesh Joshi their demands were not considered.
  • The authority has acquired 360 metres and 135 metre development corridors will be constructed on either side of the 90-metre transport corridor road. "If the government really wants to benefit us they should pay compensation according to the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill (LARR) 2011. And farmers will give 360 metres land happily," said Badri Prasad Sharma.EomJaipur: The ambitious project 'Naya Jaipur' seems to be major failure of the state government as it continues to remain on paper even after two years. At the end of 2009, Urban Development and Housing (UDH) minister Shanti Dhariwal had announced Naya Jaipur project a township stretching up to 105 km in Khonagorian area behind the Jhalana hills.
