TN Sanctions Rs 1,450 Cr Worth Urban Infrastructure Projects

  • The Tamil Nadu Government has approved a number of projects totalling over Rs 1,450 crore to upgrade urban infrastructure.According to an official press release, the Government has approved an Rs 500-crore project metropolitan development scheme for Chennai and its suburbs, Rs 750 crore for other corporations and municipalities as part of an integrated urban development scheme and Rs 200 crore for road infrastructure.At a review meeting of the Ministry of Municipal Administration and Rural Development, the Minister, Mr K.P. Munusamy, has urged the officials to expedite these projects and complete them on schedule, the release said.
  • In addition under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission over Rs 6,648 crore will be spent on urban infrastructure development, Rs 1,414 crore as a part of the Tamil Nadu Urban Development Scheme, Rs 839 crore through funding from German Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency and other funding agencies to set up a range of infrastructure including water supply, drainage, roads, public transport, municipal solid waste management and education facilities.
