BMC Contractors Yet to Get Road Work Orders

  • A week after the civic standing committee approved the proposal for 700 minor roads, the work has not yet begun with the order yet to be sent out to contractors. The delay has been caused as contractors delayed in depositing their performance guarantee with the BMC. The severe shortage of engineers in the civic body is also causing delay in the works.
  • According to a civic official, contractors need to deposit 10% of the total contract cost as performance guarantee so that the BMC can forfeit this amount if the work is not satisfactory."Contractors took time paying the performance guarantee. The work order can be issued to them only after the money is deposited. Once the work order is issued, contractors will take time to start work," he said. The work was supposed to begin by December 1. An official said, even if the work orders are issued, it will begin on barely half of the roads. The problem of staff shortage is a cause of worry for the BMC.
