CM urges DMRC to Prepare Metro Rail Project Report

  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare detailed project reports of metro rail projects of Bhopal and Indore cities. Metro rail facility has become necessary in view of increasing population of Bhopal and Indore cities. The Union Government has underlined the need to launch metro rail service in the cities with a population of over 20 lakh.Delhi Metro Rail Corporation MD Mangu Singh and Executive Director SD Sharma held detailed discussions with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Mantralaya here on Tuesday on various points of preliminary survey report prepared for the ambitious metro rail projects and also gave a presentation on various technical aspects.
  • The Chief Minister urged DMRC to prepare a detailed project report of metro rail projects of both the cities in view of increasing pressure of population and extension of better traffic facilities. The estimated cost of Bhopal metro project will be `8000 crore and `8500 crore for Indore project.Appealing for presenting the DPR in six months, the Chief Minister also urged the DMRC authorities to prepare a preliminary report on Bhopal metro rail service from airport to Misrod.Three corridors are proposed for Bhopal. There will be 10 stations in the corridor from Kapila Nagar to Habibganj. The second corridor measuring nine kilometers will link Suruchi Nagar to BHEL and will have nine stations. The third corridor from Lal Ghati to Platinum Plaza will also be nine kilometer long with nine stations. Thus, 28 stations are proposed to be built in the corridors measuring 28.5 kilometers.
  • The route for first corridor will be Kapila Nagar, DIG Crossing, Shahjahanabad, Aishbagh, Pul Bogda, MP Nagar, Gautam Nagar and Habibganj. The second corridor will start from Suruchi Nagar upto BHEL via TT Nagar, Old Vidhan Sabha building, Pul Bogda and JH Road. The third corridor will be from Lal Ghati, Idgah Hills, Pan Bazar, Moti Masjid, Kamla Park, New Market, South TT Nagar and Platinum Plaza.According to the presentation, four lakh commuters will avail benefit of the metro service and revenue worth `44 lakh will be generated daily.Similarly, three corridors are also proposed for Indore metro rail service. The first corridor of 8.9 kilometers will be from Annapurna to Sukhalia. The second corridor from MR 10 to Ring Road will be of 11.70 kilometers. The third corridor of 11.47 kilometers will be from Niranjanpur to Bhanwar Kua.
  • It was informed during the presentation that population of Bhopal is increasing at the rate of 3.03 percent. According to it, Bhopal city population will be 21.68 lakh by 2016 and 24.54 lakh by 2021. Study of traffic has been undertaken on 21 roads of Bhopal. Metro rail service will reduce traffic pressure in Bhopal city. Relief from smoke and pollution will be witnessed.Travel time and road accidents will also be reduced and the benefit of investment on metro rail service will go directly to the citizens.
