Deo Inaugurates Kohima Solar City Cell

  • MLA Deo Nukhu, adviser New & Renewable Energy and art & culture today inaugurated Kohima Solar City Cell and 10KW Solar Power Plant here at the directorate of NRE. The idea behind the creation of solar city cell is to generate public awareness on renewable energy.Speaking on the occasion, Nukhu appealed to the KMC members and the district administrations to extend full co-operation so as to spread public awareness and to reap the benefits of solar energy. He thanked the Government of India for chosen Kohima and Dimapur as solar cities. These are two cities in the 20 first lists as solar cities in the country. He said Nagaland is the first in the north east to have New & Renewable Energy department separated from the power department in. Besides mini hydro projects, Nukhu said the department has identified some places for generating wind energy. Maintaining that the only way to preserve water is to preserve the forest and its natural resources, he added “we are all collectively responsible for preserving our forests resources”.
  • Er. T.S. Angami, director, NRE (Solar City Mission) said the department aims to mitigate global warming and climate change through the platform of new and renewable energy. The department has distributed many solar lamp to the public and it plans to increase the quantity of the lamp for larger accessible to the people. He said the department has installed solar water heating project in Kohima. Further, the department is all set to install 14 street lights within Kohima town and awaiting clearance from the Kohima Municipal Council. The department has installed several Bio-gas in the state and this year it plan to concentrate in the outskirt of Kohima town. Apart from energy conservation, he said the use of firewood and LPG will be reduced by using Biogas.
  • The director invited the public to visit Solar City cell and get necessary information and be acquainted with all the devices. “Public should be aware of renewable energy and devices,” he said.Elizabeth Ngullie, CEO, KMC and Er. Kavito Chishi, joint director (N), New & Renewable Energy (Solar Power Plant) also spoke on the occasion. The function was chaired by T.Ao. IAS, secretary New & Renewable Energy & Disaster Management while Er. Renilo Nuh, assistant director (H), New & Renewable Energy proposed vote of thanks.
