Mumbai to Get 150 MW More Via Rinfra Link

  • Reliance Infrastructure has commissioned a transmission link on the Maharashtra State Transmission Company's Boisar – Borivali transmission line that brings power to Mumbai from the city outskirts. The link will help the city get an additional 150 MW power from the outskirts, as it will ease congestion on the city's transmission network, especially during summer, when demand peaks. The Mumbai transmission network is facing congestion due to rising demand as well as lack of adequate transmission corridors to bring in additional power. The new 220kV loop-in-loop-out (LILO) line, constructed near Ghodbunder, was charged by the transmission utilities on Tuesday.
  • Mr. Lalit Jalan, Chief Executive Officer, Reliance Infrastructure, said this was much needed transmission link to ensure stability to Mumbai's transmission system. The link would not only take away the load on the existing system but also ensure additional power for Mumbai. It will also enhance stability of the generation system of the entire grid.Mr Jalan said RInfra, which is the transmission and distribution licensee for Mumbai for the next 25 years, has so far spent Rs. 650 crore in strengthening the transmission system. It had recently commissioned three new EHV (extra high voltage) substations to de-congest load on transmission and sub-transmission system and plans to add few more substations to the existing six.
