ONGC Collects Samples of Gas Detected in a Gujarat Village

  • An ONGC team has collected samples of gas and soil from the outskirts of Dhori village in Kutch district, after the local villagers detected gas coming out of the ground during land escavation work. Residents of Dhori village found that some inflammable gas is coming of the ground, while they carried out digging work on the village border around a week back. After informing the village authorities as well as the district authorities, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) team yesterday came to the village and collected the samples, sources said. Kanabhai Patel, sarpanch of Dhori Village panchayat said, the unidentified gas was detected while digging the land in the village. "It was found that the gas would catch fire, whenever a matchstick was ignited close to it," he said. He claimed that this is the third time in the past ten years that such gas was found coming out of the ground in or around the village. The ONGC team members however refused to elaborate on the issue. "It is difficult to talk about the gas without analysing it in a laboratory, which will be done in ONGC," team member Anil Gupta said.
