Qatar Firm Has Assured Uninterrupted LNG Supply: Petronet

  • The Qatar-based firm contracted to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Petronet LNG Ltd has assured to continue the supply despite tension building up in the Gulf region over Iran's nuclear programme, a top executive of the Indian company said on Thursday.Petronet LNG Ltd has signed a sale and purchase agreement with Qatar's Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Ltd for the supply of LNG to India.Ras Laffan has assured there will be no disruption in supply of LNG to India despite the tension in the Gulf and sanctions imposed on Iran over its atomic programme, Petronet Managing Director and CEO A K Balyan said.
  • Petronet is a company formed by the Government of India to import LNG and set up LNG terminals. The firm has selected Gaz de France as its strategic partner.Petronet set up its first LNG terminal at Dahej, about 100 kms from Vadodara, with a capacity of 10 million metric tonnes per year.Capacity at the Dahej terminal will be expanded to 15 million tonnes per year by end of 2014 for which the Board of Directors recently gave its approval, Baliyan said.Regassified LNG from the Dahej terminal is meeting the burgeoning gas demand in Gujarat as well as Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana, he said.
