GoM on Environment to Meet on March 1

  • The power sector has been clearing off coal and gas issues, but now it is learnt that getting fresh coal blocks from the environment ministry is an issue. According to the sources in the government, the group of ministers (GoM) headed by finance minister on environment will be meeting on March 1, reports CNBC-TV18's Anshu Sharma.They would be discussing the "go-no go policy" for mining and will also review the status of eight pending projects with the ministry of environment like the Mahan project.
  • A report on NTPC 's North Karanpura, which has just obtained the first stage of clearance will also be discussed in this meet.Also, clearance for forest for coal blocks is on the agenda of the meeting. CNBC-TV18 had recently reported, the ministry of coal wrote to ministry of environment for CB clearances of coal blocks, so that they can meet the fuel supply agreement of 80% as directed by the Prime Ministers office.
