GAIL Pipeline Being Tapped for Power Plant in Goa: Shinde

  • Union Power Minister Shushilkumar Shinde today said that the proposal for a gas-based power generation plant for Goa is pending with the state, which will soon be implemented to tide over the power shortage. Shinde, who did not make any announcement in the wake of election code of conduct, said that the ministry has already moved a proposal to set up a gas-based power plant, considering the environmental impact of other types of power plants. He said the pipeline from Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) is being tapped for Goa. "But even if there is no GAIL gas coming, we will make sure that there is gas supply for the plant," Shinde said. The minister is in Goa to campaign for Congress party for the forthcoming Goa assembly polls. He said that there were also proposals for smaller hydro-power plants in the state. "These were at different locations, but the main stress is on the gas-based plant," Shinde added. Goa has been suffering 100 MW power shortage every day, which is being tide over by power cuts.
