CM to Mount Pressure on Centre on Highways Issue

  • After the Central Government cleared the Special Court Bill, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has decided to mount pressure on the Centre over the long pending issue of national highways passing through Madhya Pradesh.
  • There are 10 national highways passing through Madhya Pradesh are in dilapidated condition, since the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was formed and maintenance work was centralised.
  • The Chief Minister, while talking to The Pioneer said that this was a major issue pending for long. “I have met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and CP Joshi several times and would again request them to grant the State Government permission to maintain the national highways passing from here,” he said adding that if they fail to solve the problem, the BJP and the State Government would have no other option, but to agitate.
  • He expressed surprise over the delay made by the Union Government in converting the Special Courts Bill into Act, but at last the Bill has been approved. The State Government will constitute a Special Court under the Act immediately after the approval to the Bill is received from the Centre.
  • Chouhan has welcomed the ruling of the Supreme Court about fixing a four-month deadline for the Government to take decision on investigation into complaints of corruption. He said that it will be implemented in Madhya Pradesh also.
  • He said that the campaign against corruption will continue. A sense of fear will be instilled among the corrupt officers and employees with the implementation of the new Act. They will also be fearful that their assets may be confiscated. He said that immediate action will be taken wherever irregularities come to the fore. The State Government will not differ in policy and intention regarding corruption.
  • He also said that reaching among the common people and sitting in Mantralaya both are necessary. The Government will function on this basis. He said that all the incharge ministers of districts will identify development works in their respective districts and the works will be undertaken accordingly.
  • Chouhan said that shortcomings will be removed with the help of the feedback being received during Vikas Yatra. He also said that it will be decided on the basis of the feedback as to which panchayat is to be convened next at the Chief Minister’s residence.
