NTPC’s Overseas Foray to Begin from May

  • State-run generation utility NTPC would see its first overseas project kick off by May in Bangladesh when the company starts work on a 1,320 mw power plant in Khulna, company chairman Arup Roy Choudhury said on Monday.Choudhury said NTPC is to sign the joint venture agreement with Bangladesh Electricty Board on January 29 Bangladesh.

  • The project is part of the agreement between the two governments signed during Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina's visit here last year. NTPC's first overseas foray would have been Sri Lanka where it is to build a 500 mw plant. But the final word on the project took a long time to come from Colombo .The agreement was signed last year and Choudhury said NTPC expected to tie up funds for the project by September.
