List of Priority Projects for Kozhikode Submitted to Planning Board

  • The Kozhikode district administration has submitted a list of 10 priority projects for the consideration of the Kerala State Planning Board.The proposed mono rail system and the pending development works on National Highway – 17 are some of the high-priority projects contained in the list, which was handed over by the District Collector, Mr P.B. Salim to the Vice-Chairman of the Planning Board, Mr K.M. Chandrasekhar, at an official-level review meeting here on Saturday.
  • The Collector said the implementation of the projects on a fast-track basis would address many of the developmental concerns of the district.The other demands in the list include realisation of inland waterway connectivity, effective solid waste management measures, alternative ghat road from Thamarassery to Wayanad, waste water treatment facility in Kozhikode Medical College, coastline highway, utilisation of Mavoor Gwalior Rayons land, more slaughter houses and public graveyard facilities in panchayats.
  • Mr Salim laid stress on the need to clear the legalities related to the conversion of industrial land in Mavoor Gwalior Rayons to realise the proposal to make it an educational hub for vocational skill development.He pointed out that there was 325 acres of land available for the project, which would play a crucial role in the growth of the city.

COMPREHENSIVE REPORT

  • Mr Chandrasekhar, responding to the demands, said he would place the recommendations before the Chief Minister for favourable action.He also asked the District Collector to look into the current status of each project and submit a comprehensive report to the Planning Board, which would be placed before the State Government.He also promised initiatives on the part of the Planning Board to convene inter-departmental meetings in the district to finalise the formalities for getting approval for the various projects contained in the list.
