Railways Register 9.70% Growth in Freight Earning

  • Railways have earned Rs55,382.80 crore as revenue from freight traffic during April 2011 to January 2012, registering an increase of 9.70%.The amount earned from freight was Rs50,487.91 crore during the corresponding period last year, a ministry official said.Railways carried 791.84 million tonnes of freight during April-January period as compared to 755.86 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year.The freight earning in January was Rs6173.57.
