Himachal Pradesh: Simla- Kangra National High Way Being Widened on War Footing

  • Report by Arvind Sharma, Dharamsala: The previous Dhumal lead BJP government of Himachal was known for the development of roads in the state. The present  BJP government has also been striving hard on improvement and strengthening of the road network for the last four years. This work is being taken up in the entire state. Simla Kangra road line is the life line of the state as it crosses through the half way of physical Himachal, it is being given a face lift. In this drive National Highway Division, Hamirpur has spent around Rs.29 crores on construction works including bridges, upkeep, widening, strengthening and periodical renewal on the NH-70 and NH-88. Apart from widening of 13 kms of road, the Division completed strengthening of 21 kms of roads and periodical renewal of 66 kms. These days he Division is busy over widening of culverts, formation and cutting and strengthening of the road between Naduan-Jwalamukhi road on the NH-88. The 14 kms stretch is being widened at Phakloh, Amb, Bhadoli etc. on war-footing.
  • Giving details of the works, Executive Engineer Satish Nag told that in the fiscal year 2008-09 around Rs. 52 lakhs were spent on the widening of 3.6 kms of road on NH-70. The Division spent over Rs.178.85 lakhs on widening of 1.8 kms and strengthening of 2.875 kms of road in the year 2009-10. About 40 per cent of the works of Hatli Bridge was completed by spending an amount of Rs.56.87 lakhs. A length of six kms of road was widened by spending over Rs.154 lakhs in addition to the strengthening of three kms of road. The Division spent over Rs.7 crore on different works.During the year 2010-11, a budget of Rs. 13 crore was spent, which included the remaining works of the Hatli Bridge at a cost of Rs.
  • 31.39 lakhs. A sum of Rs.8 crores is being spent on different works by the Division in the current financial year. It also includes construction of Hamirpur Bye Pass over which a sum of Rs.181.76 lakhs is being spent. The Division is spending Rs.109.19 lakhs on the widening works.The state government have also cleared the construction of 5 new road tunnels to speedup the traffic of this- rail net works neglected state
