OPGC Becomes Odisha Power Generation Corporation

  • Report by OrissaDiary.com bureau; Bhubaneswar: In alignment with Orissa becoming Odisha, one of the leading state PSUs Orissa Power Generation Corporation Limited, has officially announced the change of its name to Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited. after getting approval from Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The change in the name of the corporation has come into effect from 09.02.2012, following the approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt. of India, vide SRN B31507601 dated 09-02-2012.
  • OPGC is one of first few state PSUs to bring into effect the change in the name of the corporation, aligning with the change in the name of the state from ‘Orissa’ to ‘Odisha’. This amendment has been done conveying deep sense of respect of the company to the state of Odisha and its people. It may be noted here that, the state of Orissa has been officially renamed as ‘Odisha’ in November 2011 with the assent of the Honorable President of India.
  • Now onwards, in all official communications and references OPGC will be mentioned as ‘Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited’.
  • It may be noted here that OPGC is a state premier Public Sector Organization incorporated with the object to establish, operate and maintain electric power generation stations and to develop coal mine and to pursue such other objective as are incidental and ancillary thereto. Currently, it is operating 2x210 MW power station at Ib Thermal Power Station, Banharpalli, Dist. Jharsuguda, Odisha and pursuing project development activities for capacity addition of 2x660 MW in the same location in addition to development of captive coal block in Sundergarh district. OPGC, which was incorporated on November 14, 1984, is at present a 51:49 JV between the Govt. of Odisha and AES Corporation, USA.
