Sheila Sets March Deadline for PWD to Repair Roads, Signage

  • For proper upkeep of roads , streetlights and signage put in place during the Commonwealth Games , chief minister Sheila Dikshit has directed PWD engineers to take up repair work on a regular basis . Setting March as the deadline for putting things in order, the CM said that PWD engineers will be held accountable for any laxity in maintenance.
  • In a meeting chaired by the chief minister on Wednesday, senior engineers were told to take rounds of their localities at least once a week to assess the deficiencies in maintenance . "Superintending engineers would be held responsible for sloppy work ," Dikshit emphasized . The issue of frequent roadcutting by various agencies was also discussed at the meeting . The government proposes to set up a coordination panel for weekly review of maintenance work. Dikshit said that if required , the government would increase the budgetary allocation for upkeep of roads , streetlights and signage . The government also plans to engage a permanent agency to lift malba from roads for a specific period . The need for procuring pothole repairing machines was also felt.
