State Asked to Consider RLNG for Power Generation

  • The Industrial sector in the state seems to be quite upset with industries minister Geeta Reddy and the power utilities. They say AP is emerging as one of the most unfriendly states for the industrial sector.Despite assurances, there has been no headway regar-ding solving the continuing power crisis since the last six months. Meanwhile, officials say that short-term arrangements can be made for the small and medium industries by arranging for the costly RLNG (Re-Liquefied Natural Gas).

  • However, since using RLNG is a costly affair, a final decision can be taken only after the government gives a go-ahead to purchase it for power generation. The use of RLNG would bring up the cost per unit of power from Rs 3 to Rs 9 on an average, while the industrial tariffs are currently only around Rs 3 to Rs 4 per unit.“We have asked for an estimate of power consumption by small and medium industries from all the discoms, so that alternative arrangements can be made,” said the APTransco chairman and MD, Mr Ajay Jain. The industry, meanwhile, demanded that small and medium industries be given power at a regular cost.
