Forest Dwellers to Get Power Through Solar, Wind Energy

  • Union Minister of State for power, K C Venugopal, has said the Centre has taken the initiative to make power available to forest dwellers in Kerala through solar and wind energy."Such traditional power projects will be implemented within a month," he said at a review meeting on centrally- aided projects in Kerala.The minister said Rs 1,170 crore had been allotted for the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme for electrification of town areas in Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram districts, which would later also be extended to other cities. Venugopal said Rajiv Gandhi Grameen electricity Yojana project was first implemented in Idukki district, where power was made available to about 17,325 Below Poverty Line families in 37 villages at a cost of about Rs 20 crore.
