Industries to Tax AP Over ‘Power Holiday’

  • The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Industries (Fapi) has decided not to pay further taxes to the state government as a mark of protest against the 'power holiday' of 12 days a month and proposed tariff hikes from April 1 for the industrial sector in the state.Fapi has held Reliance Industries Ltd responsible for the present power crisis in the state. The Federation, comprising over 2,000 large, medium, small and tiny industries in the state, will hold a 'state-wide convention' in the city on March 24 to decide on a future course of action.

  • Representatives from CII, Ficci, Fapcci and other trade bodies have been invited to the meeting. Fapi president B.V. Rama Rao said that the state government’s lack of foresight and planning was very much evident in the way the power holiday had been declared for the industrial sector.Though plenty of gas is available in the KG Basin, it is being diverted to Gujarat and the state government is not in a position to initiate any action against Reliance. Moreover, the company has brought down the production in D-6 block.
