  • The Minister also said that the quantum of natural gas imported during the last three years, mainly from Qatar, Malaysia, Russia, UAE, Egypt, Oman, Australia, Algeria, Nigeria, USA, Norway, Trinidad & Tobago is as follows:

  • Stating that Government has not entered into any agreement with foreign countries for supply of natural gas, Shri Singh however added that, during the last two years, i.e. 2009-10 and 2010-11, Petronet LNG Ltd., a joint venture of GAIL (India) Ltd, has entered into a 20 year contract with Mobil Australia Resources Company Pty, Ltd. (a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil) from its Gorgon project in Australia for supply of 1.44 MMTPA, to commence from 2014. GAIL has also entered into medium term contract with Marubeni for 0.25 MMTPA of LNG quantities, and supplies have already commenced. Further, Oil Companies, such as GAIL (India) Ltd., Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Gujarat State Petroleum Company (GSPC) and Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) have entered into an agreement with Gazprom Marketing & Trading Singapore (GM&TS) for long term LNG supplies.

  • He emphasised that Government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to enhance availability of natural gas in the country through intensification of domestic Exploration & Production (E&P) activities through New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) rounds, Coal Bed Methane (CBM), Shale Gas and Gas Hydrates.
