VDA Plans to Spend Lavishly on Roads, Parks and Ghats

  • Apart from approving the annual budget for 2012-13 financial year, the board of Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) took many important decisions at its meeting on Saturday.Vice chairman of VDA RP Goswami informed that the annual budget of Rs 20,231.04 lakh was approved by the board. He said the VDA would make major earning by selling plots and buildings while an aide of Rs 17 crore would be given by the state government. He said the VDA would seek loan of Rs 68 crore from HUDCO.

  • He said the VDA had planned to spend Rs 35 crore on works like road, parks and ghat construction while Rs 28 crore would be spent on building construction. He said construction of one more tower had been included in Land Mark Tower group housing project of VDA in Lalpur. He said to facilitate the builders, amendments had been made in group housing projects and reserving 10% flats for economically weaker section and lower income group had been made a must in the group housing projects of 3000 sq metre area and above.

  • He said orders had been issued for the regularisation of four out of over 200 illegal colonies. He said the layout plan for Maninangr (Kandava), Prakashpuri (Birdopur), Bhagirathi Nagar (Nevada) and Ramapuri (Bhelupur) had been approved and, after realizing development charges from the dwellers of these colonies, the works would be started.

  • The board also ordered to launch drives on regular basis against the illegally constructed buildings from April, he said adding, the district administration had assured to provide adequate force to escort the teams, which would continue this drive. He said cases of misuse of basement parking sites for commercial gains by buildings owners would also be covered under the same drive and legal action would be initiated against those who would try to create hurdle.

  • He said only one satellite township project (Anand Van along Jaunpur highway) had been given approval by the board. He said the land of farmers would be acquired for the project as per the amended land acquisition of policy and affected farmers would get 16% developed land against his acquired land or the cost of same. He said the layout plan of ambitious Transport Nagar project had also been approved by the board and after the end of registration process by March 20, the allotment of plots would be started.

  • The board also gave its approval principally for allocating a fund of Rs 17.16 crore from establishment fund for revival of stream of the Varuna and beginning of water transport facility against the total cost estimated in the detailed project report of Rs 171.60 crore.

  • The board also decided to increase the rent of per day booking of multipurpose buildings of cultural complex in Chowkaghat from Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000. The board also decided to reply against the quarries made by the government on the proposal of renaming of cultural complex after the name of legendary litterateur Munsi Premchand.

  • The meeting started under the chairman of VDA board and divisional commissioner AK Upadhyaya in which district magistrate Ravindra, DM Chandauli, vice chairmen of VDA, municipal commissioner, assistant town planner, treasury officer, managing director of UP Jal Nigam and many other officials participated.
