Sarai Rohilla Railway Station to Get New Opening Points

  • After the Anand Vihar rail terminal, the Northern Railways have shifted its focus on decongesting and upgrading passenger amenities at Sarai Rohilla railway station in the national Capital. With entry to the railway station facing massive congestion round the clock, the railways have decided to facilitate the passengers with a new entry/exit point on the Old Rohtak Road besides the existing one at the New Rohtak Road. The decision has been taken after the Northern Railway General Manager BN Rajshekhar inspected the railway station on Monday. With the new decongestion plan coming into effect, Sarai Rohilla station will have two entry/exit points.

  • According to a Northern railway official, the GM accompanied by DRM Ashwini Lohani, took stock of the traffic situation surrounding the station entrance on the New Rohtak Road side. “In view of the massive congestion, it has been decided to construct a new road from Liberty Cinema on New Rohtak Road up to the railway station. The new road will be constructed parallel to the existing railway lines and will lead to the railway station,” said a senior railway official. Instructions were also given to the railway officials to decongest the existing circulating areas surrounding the station premises.

  • Rajshekhar also announced the officials to make a second entrance on the Old Rohtak Road side of the station. He directed to construct a two-storied station building on the Old Rohtak Road side. The new building will be equipped with basic facilities like waiting hall, ticket booking windows and public convenience among others.

  • The new decongestion plan of the station assumes significance in wake of massive traffic congestion surrounding the station entrance on the New Rohtak Road. As this road witnesses heavy traffic volume especially during the morning and evening peak hours, it causes inconvenience to thousands of rail passengers. The traffic situation is more chaotic in front of Liberty Cinema that is located in the close vicinity of the railway station. The situation becomes worse during the peak festive seasons when Sarai Rohilla station registers higher footfall. Also, its proximity to the Indralok metro station adds to the congestion.

  • Sarai Rohilla is the originating point of several important long-distance trains. Some sought-after trains departing from Sarai Rohilla include Sarai Rohilla-Bandra Garib Rath Express, Sarai Rohilla-Jammu Tawi Duronto Express, Awadh Assam Express, Ranikhet Express and Mussoorie Express among others. In the Rail Budget presented in the Parliament last week, two new trains to Bandra and Udhampur have also been announced from Sarai Rohilla station. Also, over a dozen special trains start from here during the festive seasons that increases the passenger rush.
