Essar Oil Starts Two Key Units At West India Refinery

  • Essar Oil Ltd said Wednesday it started a new vacuum gas oil hydrotreating unit and a sulphur recovery unit at its Vadinar refinery in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Essar, which owns a 300,000-barrel-a-day refinery at Vadinar, said it is now days away from completing its capacity expansion to 375,000 barrels a day, or 18 million metric tons a year.The sulphur recovery unit will enable the company to process sour and opportunity crudes, and it will play a key role in helping the refinery meet emission norms, Essar Oil said in a statement.The vacuum gas oil hydrotreating unit will help the refinery produce low sulphur, high octane gasoline and the unit is also capable of producing naptha, kerosene and diesel, the company said.
