First Phase of Kochi-Mangalore Pipeline By 2013

  • Minister of state for petroleum and natural gas R P N Singh informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply on Wednesday that the first phase of the Kochi-Mangalore pipeline project of the Gas Authority of India (Gail) would be commissioned by 2012-13.

  • The project will consist of two phases, Singh said.The laying of a 40-km pipeline in the Kochi region has been planned in the first phase, out of which 33.5 km of pipeline has been welded and lowered so far.

  • Laying of the pipeline from Kochi to Bangalore/Mangalore has been planned in the second phase.Laying contracts were awarded in January this year and mobilization of equipment and manpower is in progress, Singh said.

  • Before laying the pipeline, Gail would interact with the local administration and apprise them of the passage of the pipeline and steps being taken to mitigate problems of the villagers.The process of determination of compensation in respect of the second phase has not yet begun, Singh added.
