UP Govt to Develop New Policy for Small Industries

  • The Uttar Pradesh government said it would develop a new industrial policy on the lines of Uttrakhand to promote the small industries in the state and a special scheme for Bundelkhand.

  • "To promote small industries in the state a new policy will be chalked out on the lines of Uttrakhand," the state's Minister for Small Industries and Export Promotion (Independent Charge) Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar told reporters here.

  • He said that a special scheme would be chalked out to set up small industries in ravines of Etawah, Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal regions of the state.

  • In a reply to a question, the minister alleged that the previous BSP government did nothing to promote small industries as a result of which unemployment could not be controlled.

  • "While no new industry was set up, exisiting ones closed down," Gangwar alleged.

  • He said that there was a scheme to re-start closed industries.

  • The minister said that the intention of the SP government was to provide employment opportunities to maximum number of people and that was possible only by setting up small industries.

  • He said that while special scheme would be chalked out for Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal, a policy would be formulated to promote cane, wood, bamboo and mentha industries in western districts of the state.

  • Gangwar said that to ensure that small industrialists earn better profits besides developing clusters, proper arrangement of distribution would also be ensured.

  • He said that to attract big industrial houses for investment in Bareilly division a proposal to construct an airport was being contemplated.

  • Talks would be held with the Civil Aviation Ministry from Chief Minister level in this regard, he said.

  • The minister said that to create employment opportunity a new industrial area on 1,500 hectare land would be developed near rubber factory in Bareilly.
