India Aims to Double Gas Pipeline Network By 2017

  • India aims to more than double its natural gas pipeline network over the next five years to 30,000 km to cope with the country's booming demand for cleaner energy supplies.Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told a gathering of Asian gas industry representatives in New Delhi last week that natural gas consumption in India had grown at 14 per cent a year over the last five years, compared with 18 per cent for the world’s biggest energy consumer, China. Australia and the Middle East had already emerged as important gas suppliers to Asia, he said.
