• Northern Railway has an action plan in place to tackle the extra traffic that it usually get during summers. This includes a series of measures to check malpractices in densely-populated areas to ensure smooth functioning of reservation counters and better passenger amenities.“Joint forces of vigilance inspectors, Railway Police and the city police will be conducting drives to check unauthorised travel agencies and touts in reservation and booking offices,” said a Northern Railway spokesperson.

• Among the long list of checks and measures that Northern Railway has planned are regular checks against fraud with reserved coaches to be manned at all times, checks against misuse of passes, warrants and other concessions, and checking of identity proofs of passengers travelling in upper class coaches. Regular checks will also be made for inflammable articles and explosives and announcements about holiday special trains will also be made.

• Northern Railway will also display details of additional coaches on LED boards at the stations in addition to wide publicity through TV, Press and radio along with ensuring that wrong, inaccurate information is not relayed to passengers.Moreover, provision of better passenger amenities like cleanliness at stations and in trains, adequate drinking water, illuminated signage and clean and proper waiting halls have also been promised.
