Intermittent Power Outages Make Puneites Sweat

  • Although, officially, zero load-shedding is in force in the city, Puneites have to grin and bear with intermittent power outages which is testing their patience during the summer. Residents of Kondhwa, Pimpri-Chinchwad and other areas have been complaining about the power cuts, which seems to have affected the electronic gadgets in their residence. Murtuza Nalwala, a resident of NIBM Road, had to shell out substantial amount of money to repair his two television sets and air conditioner which were apparently damaged due to intermittent power cut in the last one week.

  • “The electrician who came to repair the appliances claimed that intermittent power outages were responsible for the damage,’’ he said. Other than Nalwala, many other residents of the same area also complained of the outages which it seems have come more of a schedule than an exception.

  • Similar is the plight of residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad where the outages seem to be becoming a regular affair. B Ashoke, a resident of Pune-Nashik Road, complained that in a day, the power goes off twice for a10-minute duration.Executive engineer of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Abdul Ansari, said at certain areas, power is switched off to disconnect illegal power supply. “We do not have any outages in the city,’’ he said.Activist Vivek Velankar claimed that lack of maintenance is resulting in intermittent power outages. “These outages are happening due to the rising heat,’’ he said.
