Uniform rate fixed for Road Restoration Work

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The city municipal corporation has implemented a uniform rate to be paid to it for road restoration work carried out in all 100 wards for laying new water pipeline connections. The resolution was passed at the emergency meeting of the council convened here on Monday. The corporation has now extended the rates from the old corporation limits to the 40 wards in the newly added areas in the suburbs. City mayor SM Velusamy however, clarified that as of now there will be no increase in the water charges for the residents in the newly added areas.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;There will be no increase in the water charges and other tax rates in the newly added areas for the first three years. The present rate is applicable only for those taking fresh water supply connections,&quot; said Velusamy.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The corporation has fixed these rates on the basis of the type of pipeline to be laid and the category of road that has to be dug for laying these supply lines. The rates will be different for laying the pipelines under tar coated road surface, concrete roads and mud roads in the corporation limits. The city corporation has also announced that plumber charges would also be uniform across the corporation limits.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The corporation also hiked the penalty imposed on manufacturers, sellers and users of plastic materials less than 40 microns in thickness in the city. The civic body has opted for a steep hike as the manufacturers will be now fined INR 1 lakh instead of INR 5,000 fee that was earlier announced in the corporation. The civic body has also decided to penalise hotel owners using plastic packing materials. A penalty of INR 200 will be charged from residents found using plastic materials less than 40 microns in thickness.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;We have decided to impose strict fines to ensure that plastic ban below 40 microns is properly enforced in our limits. Usage and disposal of plastic below the permitted size has serious effects as it cannot be recycled or properly disposed,&quot; said S Sivarasu, deputy commissioner, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The city corporation council has also decided to ask for a private consultant to prepare a building plan and detailed draft for the construction of a new council hall to accommodate all 100 councilors and corporation officials in the main office complex. The council also decided to hike the estimate of the council hall from the earlier proposed INR 9.7 crore to INR 12.65 crore.
