Shiradi Ghat will be motorable by Jan end: Union Minister for transport

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Union minister for transport, road and highways Oscar Fernandes on Monday said that the on&nbsp;going repair works on Shiradi Ghat stretch on Mangalore- Bangalore National Highway will be completed by January 31.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">The minister told reporters that the Union government has released INR 95 crore for the development of the stretch which was damaged completely during monsoon.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;The repair works will make the road motorable. Works of concreting the road will be taken up parallelly and it will be completed within 18 months. The road stretches, which get damaged frequently during rains, will be concreted. The rest of the road will be asphalted. An action plan has been prepared and construction materials will be procured locally. Details of all works on Shiradi Ghat road will be updated on the website,&quot; he said.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">The minister added that the Shiradi tunnel road project will be implemented in the next phase. &quot;We have held discussions on the tunnel road project with representatives of the Japan government. The tunnel road will be constructed at Shiradi using Japanese technology,&quot; he added.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Oscar said that a flyover will be constructed at the National Highway junction at Nanthoor in the city. &quot;The proposal had faced a setback due to issues related to land acquisition. They have been sorted out and the government has sanctioned Rs 40 crore to construct the flyover. Similarly, INR 22 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of service roads on the National Highway between BC Road and Surathkal,&quot; he added.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">On traffic congestion at toll gates, the minister said that an electronic tolling system will be introduced to solve the issue. &quot;Vehicle users can pay the toll using their mobile phones. The system will be introduced on pilot basis on Tumkur- Davanagere route.
