Authorities wake up after stir over poor Road condition

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The defence authorities here have agreed to reconstruct the damaged Station Chhack-Patrapada road following agitation by the locals at separate places in Balasore town.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The people under the banner of Proof Road Surakhya Mancha (PRSM) on Monday staged road blockades at Bankakhajira, Sunhat, Madhua Mill Chhack, Bhujakhia Pir, Patrapara, Machhua Sahi and Mansingh Bazar from 4.30 am to 2 pm disrupting movement of long route heavy vehicles including buses.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">Shops and business establishments were closed from Gadgadia to Patrapara in support of the agitation. The agitators alleged that the road full of potholes had claimed four lives including two students in the last one year.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Works at the defence establishments were hampered as many officials could not attend their offices due to the blockades.&nbsp;</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">The agitators also demanded to stop plying of heavy vehicles on the road from 7 am to 9 pm till the construction of the road is completed.&nbsp;</span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">The agitators were, however, pacified after ITR Director MVKV Prasad and PXE Director R Appavu Raj assured them in the presence of district officials of starting construction work of the Station Chhack-Patrapada road in next four months. ADM Akshay Mohanty and Tehsildar Pinaki Patnaik were present at the spot.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Later, a meeting of the Mancha leaders with Collector Parameswaran B and SP Amrita Dash was also held at the Collector&rsquo;s office where the defence authorities assured of taking up the matter with their higher ups and produce the sanction order for the road construction in next 10 days.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The defence officials also said they would get a sanction order from their Ministry for construction of the road at a cost of INR 3.5 crore in 10 to 15 days and start work by April.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&ldquo;It was also decided that the encroachments will be evicted by the municipality authorities with the help of the administration after the fund is sanctioned. Provisions will also be made for construction of drains,&rdquo; the Tehsildar said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Communication on the six-km road, considered as lifeline of Balasore, poses risk to vehicular traffic even during day. Condition of other roads to Phandi Chhack, Motiganj Bazar, Suelpur, Gola Pokhari road, Bateswar Road, Mathasahi, Bhoisahi, Hemkapada, Azimabad, Ranipatana, Arad Bazar and Nayabazar areas is also in similar condition.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
