Collector reviews Bridge, Road Projects

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Collector R Nanthagopal on Thursday inspected two major road and bridge projects implemented at a cost of around INR 34.76 crore in Melvisharam and Kalavai.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The Collector first inspected the bridge being constructed across river Palar from Melvisharam to Thengal at a cost of INR 23.96 crore. The 787.5 metre bridge would connect the NH-46 and NH-4. &ldquo;The 12 metre wide two-lane bridge will have footpaths on either side. We have completed the construction of the 12-feet span (ride way surface) out of 25 spans of the bridge,&rdquo; said G Manohar, divisional engineer (construction and maintenance) of Vellore.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The work, which is funded by NABARD and the State, commenced in 2011, he said and added that it would be completed by September this year. The Collector also inspected the 12.1 Km road widening work between Kalavai Naganeri and Mambakkam Junction near Vazhapandal at a cost of INR 10.8 crore.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The State highways had completed the widening and laying of the road for a stretch of around 7.5 Km. Under the project, the highways would widen the road from 5.5 metres to 7 metres, to convert it into a two-lane road. The department would also carry out dense bituminous macadam to increase the thickness of the road to 9 cm. &ldquo;It will improve the quality of the road as well as facilitate the movement of heavy vehicles,&rdquo; Manohar added further.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
