<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The engineering wing of the Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) has finally secured a nod of the architect wing of the UT administration to construct four slip roads around the Old Labour Chowk, the sector 18,19,20,21 roundabout.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The move will not only ease traffic congestion on Udyog Path but provide much needed way for commuters to go towards Sukhna Lake and sectors 17, 19, 22 and 33.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The MC has studied the project and prepared the plan. Work would begin in the next few days. According to the initial plan, all slip roads would be constructed less than 100 meters from the rotary so that commuters do not miss them and only those needing to take the roundabout head straight.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;We have largely completed our paperwork and are in the process to make a financial cost of the project. According to initial estimates, we have to axe around a dozen trees to construct the four slip roads. Besides, as per the drawing approved by the architect wing, we will also construct a sloping pedestrian path on the dividing road of sectors 18 and 21 which will also help to reduce the speed of vehicles. The size of the path will be around 8-foot and the project will be constructed at a cost of around INR 1 crore, including the strengthening of main roads along the rotary,&quot; said an official.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">An official of the traffic police said, &quot;As the Old Labour Chowk was the most congested rotary on Udyog Path, we sent the proposal to the MC to construct slip roads at all four sides sometime back. It is good that the proposal is finally taking concrete shape.
