Urban Development Ministry clears infrastructure projects worth INR 550 crore for Delhi

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Weeks after the change of guard in Delhi, the Union urban development ministry approved four infrastructure projects involving INR 550 crore under urban development fund (UDF). These include revised estimate for projects including the underpass with clover leafs between Sarita Vihar and Okhla Industrial Area, which may be ready by July.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">UD ministry officials said the cost of Sarita Vihar underpass project has increased from INR 127 crore to INR 260 crore because of change in scope of work and use of technology. The project is being executed by Delhi Development Authority. Launched in 2008, the original deadline was August 2010.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The second proposal cleared was the covering of nullah and drain in Lajpat Nagar. The proposal first mooted in 2008 was estimated at INR 29 crore, but now it has escalated to INR 132 crore. Sources said this has happened due to increase in the length and additional works. Originally the proposal was to cover 1.98 Km and now the reworked plan is to cover 2.24 Km. This project will also be undertaken by the DDA.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">A ministry official said that Centre provides this special assistance for projects which are not funded under any other scheme or from any agency.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The funding for third big project that has been cleared is construction of a railway under bridge between Rama Road and Prem Nagar in Krol Bagh zone. This will need INR 132 crore investments.
