At last, Road Works take off

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">If you see an army of workers bending over the roads, it is time to cheer. For, finally, the authorities have taken cognizance of the long pending demand of the citizens: repair of road works. The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) has taken up the road asphalting work on a war footing after a big push from the district in charge minister.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Sources said that district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, during his recent visit, had reportedly pulled up KUIDFC officers for not taking up the road repair and asphalting works after the completion of underground drainage (UGD) works. The minister is understood to have set a deadline: he wants the completion of asphalting work before February 7.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The authorities took up the UGD work two years ago and most of the roads were dug up to lay the pipelines. After laying the pipelines all the dug-up roads were left without asphalting, which was affecting the traffic movement. And also good roads turned into dusty ones.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Demanding asphalting of the roads, many residents and organizations staged protests against the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) and KUIDFC authorities.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">S L Patil, assistant executive engineer, KUIDFC, said that they had taken up the asphalting work in the city on Friday following instructions. &quot;We are doing the work speedily to meet the deadline,&#39;&#39; he said.&nbsp;</span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">The asphalting work at Indi pump, old Hubli Road, has been completed and work on Anand Nagar Road began on Sunday, he added.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Sameer Shukla, deputy commissioner, said they have identified 27 potholed and dusty roads in Hubli for repair and asphalting. &quot;We will complete all the works within the deadline set by the minister. Strict instructions have been given to KUIDFC officials to stick to the deadline.
