Service Road to be a reality soon

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Finally, the long pending demand of the Mulavukadu residents for a service road to the Kalamassery-Vallarpadam Container Terminal Road will soon become a reality.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">A team led by Ernakulam District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth will soon conduct a study and the report will be submitted within a month. The&nbsp;decision was taken at a meeting convened by Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas the other day. As per the decision, the District Collector will analyse the feasibility and submit the report for constructing a service road at the Mulavukadu area parallel to the Vallarpadam Container Road offering connectivity to the Island.&nbsp; The report will be prepared by the Collector with the assistance of the officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Cochin Port Trust.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">At the meeting, S Sarma MLA said the local bodies and the people&rsquo;s representatives had pointed out the necessity of the service road at the time of construction of the Container Terminal Road itself.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&ldquo;We had held several discussions in this regard with NHAI and CPT officials. Though the NHAI had submitted the plan for the service road along with the Container Terminal Road for environmental clearance, the former proposal failed to take off,&rdquo; Sarma said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Meanwhile, NHAI authorities said if they are constructing the service road near the Highway, the culvert there should be demolished and levelled which will require further clearance from the MoEF.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">However, the NHAI officials said that they will give all the necessary support for the new service road proposal. The CPT authorities&nbsp;&nbsp; said if the service road proposal gets all the necessary technical and environmental clearance, they will co operate with the plan.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">District Panchayat member M J Jomy, Mulavukad Grama Panchayat members, Action Council members and other officials attended the meet.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
