Toshiba acquires Power transmission business from Indian firm

Toshiba Corp said on January 06 that it had spent 14.2 billion rupees (227 million dollars) to buy power transmission and distribution businesses from Vijai Electricals Ltd. in India, to boost its operation in that country. In December, the Japanese electronics company established a new subsidiary, Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt. in Andhra Pradesh, to run the operation including a railway power supply system, the company said.

"The acquisition allows Toshiba to make a full-scale entry" into the Indian power transmission and distribution market, it said. Toshiba aims to capture a 20 percent share of the market in five years, it added.
