INR 100 crore Hero Honda Chowk Makeover yet to take off

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">In September last year, the state government decided to finally address the longstanding plight of commuters at the Hero Honda Chowk. A proposal was made to construct a flyover at the crossing, at the cost of INR 100 crore, to reduce the traffic load on the highway.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">For interim relief, a traffic signal was also to be set up here. Both the projects, according to sources, were slated to be &#39;completed within the next 15 months.&#39; Today, around four months into this timeline, little progress has been made.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">The cause for this delay is a common one, all the bureaucratic layers that this proposal has now to be pass through. According to a recent letter signed by the National Highways Authority of India, the ball is now in the ministry&#39;s court.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;The ministry may kindly take a conscious view of the proposal above by HUDA, and convey its decision to allow traffic light/signal at Hero Honda Chowk, although it is for only the intervening period till construction of the flyover along the NH8 at Hero Honda Chowk for which project preparation is in progress,&quot; the letter, addressed to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;No work has yet started here. It&#39;s been around four months already. NHAI is saying that the files are now with the ministry. How long will the ministry take? How long does it take to install a stoplight?&quot; said Deepak Maini, one of the campaigners, who has been pushing for upgrade works at the Hero Honda Chowk for over a year.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">On Tuesday, the deputy commissioner&#39;s office also sent out a statement saying that the &#39;administration is very serious about the flyover project at the Hero Honda Chowk.&#39;</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;The deputy commissioner, Shekhar Vidyarthi, has requested the senior officials at the NHAI to prepare an alignment scheme for the new flyover so that the administration can get the further clearances for this project from the state government,&quot; said an official spokesperson.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
