Plot handed over for Road Widening

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Paving the way for widening the Mulavukad-Bolgatty Road, the owner of the only holding which was to be acquired for the project surrendered the land on Tuesday. With this, the Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA) can complete the 2.5 Km first phase of widening the Mulavukad-Bolgatty road.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Except one person, around 249 landowners had surrendered their land to GIDA for widening the stretch in 2006. &quot;Mercy Antony finally handed over her land to GIDA on Tuesday. Now, there is no hurdle for completing the first phase,&quot; said Antony Joseph P J, member, Edappally block panchayat.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">In the second phase, GIDA will widen the 3 Km stretch of the same road. For this, the land of 140 persons will have to be acquired. &quot;The widening work is progressing at a snail&#39;s pace. Though GIDA could have completed the work on the 2.5 Km stretches except that of the 30-metre stretch that was surrendered on Tuesday, they cited this as the reason for the delay. Now, they should complete the work immediately. If the agency fails to do this, we will start protests,&quot; Joseph added.
