Phase II of KSTP Project launched

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">After much confusion over land acquisition and contractual issues, the second phase of the World Bank&nbsp;aided Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) to develop 363 Km of State highways to global standards was finally launched by Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishanan at a function here on Wednesday.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&lsquo;&rsquo;KSTP has helped in raising the State&rsquo;s development quotient. There was much skepticism voiced about Phase I of the project when it was launched. The substantial completion of Phase I works and the commencing of Phase II is an answer to all these criticisms,&rsquo;&rsquo; Thiruvanchoor said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&lsquo;&rsquo;The work of six roads will be taken up in the second phase at a cost of INR 2,403 crore. Of this, the work on three roads has already begun including the construction of a bypass at Tiruvalla. The authorities were keen on covering all the aspects before commencing the work including an environmental impact assessment. KSTP is a dream project and phase two will be completed by 2018,&rsquo;&rsquo; Works Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The works of the second phase include widening and strengthening the roads, reconstruction work of narrow bridges and culverts and improvements in drainage system.
