Two more pedestrian Subways for PH Road

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Poonamallee High Road will soon get two more pedestrian subways.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">The Highways Department is looking at the possibility of constructing these facilities as part of the design for twin flyovers coming up near the Anna arch.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&ldquo;Apart from footpaths along the service lanes, pedestrians can expect these subways that are being planned near Ampa Skywalk and Razak Garden Street, where pedestrian traffic is quite heavy,&rdquo; explained a source at the department.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Work to construct the subways however, will be taken up only when the flyover work nears completion. Each facility will cost INR&nbsp;4 crore and will be 35 metres long.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">Meanwhile, work on the INR 117 crore flyover that will allow traffic in three directions- Poonamallee High Road to Nelson Manickam Road; Poonamallee High Road to Anna Nagar Third Avenue and Nelson Manickam Road to Poonamallee High Road towards Chennai Central is progressing well.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&ldquo;The flyover is like a clover leaf and there are three crossings over Poonamallee High Road, which makes working at those points extremely difficult. We can work only between midnight and 4 a.m. after traffic diversions,&rdquo; a source said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The design for the second level flyover that will be 16 metres high and allow traffic from Anna Nagar towards Koyambedu is underway and is likely to be ready in two months.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
